HOW CAN I LEARN TM?

A simple course of instruction, four sessions of about 90 minutes on each of four consecutive days, followed by a comprehensive six month follow-up programme.

Course Outline

If you would like to find out more about Transcendental Meditation the first step is to make contact with your local Teacher or Centre. They will be able to answer any initial questions you may have and offer you the opportunity to attend an Introductory Talk.

Introductory Talks are normally held in the form of a public lecture; however it may be possible to arrange to see a teacher individually by appointment.

The talk is free of charge, and involves no commitment to learn. You are welcome to come and hear about Transcendental Meditation and to bring any friends or family who may also be interested. The teacher will answer any questions you may have.

The presentation covers points such as: what is Transcendental Meditation; what you can realistically expect to get out of the practice; a little about the scientific research; how Transcendental Meditation works; where it comes from; and how does it differ from other systems of meditation and relaxation.

Afterwards you may decide to sign up for a course, or you may decide to give it further thought. If you decide to learn, you will have the opportunity to make an appointment for instruction.

Instruction takes place in four sessions on consecutive days; each is approximately one and a half hours in duration. The first session is always one-to-one instruction where you practise Transcendental Meditation for the first time; in the three subsequent lessons, more information and instruction is given on the basis of practice at home during the course.

Because it is convenient for most people, the course usually starts on a Saturday, with follow up sessions held on Sunday morning and then Monday and Tuesday evenings. However it may be possible to arrange a different schedule if this is more convenient. Feel free to ask your teacher about this.

By the end of the course you will have all the knowledge and experience you need to meditate on your own at home; you have learned a technique, not become part of a group or organisation. However once the basic course has been completed there is a thorough and comprehensive optional follow-up and support programme.

The first six months follow-up is regarded as part of the initial course and is covered by the fee that you pay to learn Transcendental Meditation. It usually includes one meeting after about 10 days, followed by perhaps four or five more at regular intervals. These meetings ensure that you are self-sufficient in the practice - that you are practising correctly and are enjoying the benefits. They also provide deeper insight into Transcendental Meditation, and may cover related topics such as higher states of consciousness, the system of natural health care known as Maharishi Ayur-Veda, and the applications of Transcendental Meditation in other areas.

After this there is a continuing on-going programme of meditators' meetings, weekend courses and advanced courses, for those who wish to participate. However once you have learned Transcendental Meditation it is essentially something that you can do on your own.

There are 80 teaching Centres in Great Britain where you can learn Transcendental Meditation. Courses are taught by qualified Teachers who have spent at least a year on full-time training programmes designed and supervised by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of Transcendental Meditation.

The teaching of Transcendental Meditation is administered by a national educational charity, Maharishi Foundation, which maintains the standard of teaching nationwide.

Course Fee: The standard course fee is £640. Concessionary rates are also available on application. The course fee includes instruction and thorough follow up, with as much personal attention as is required, for six months.
